HHC/Trinity Campus Counseling Partnership Filling a Critical Need

April 27, 2023

When the Hartford HealthCare (HHC) campus counseling services and Trinity College partnered in 2022, all knew it was a good fit. Since then, they have worked together to increase the well-being and health of students by expanding services and access to the HHC Behavioral Health Network and its coordinated system of high-quality care and resources.

The Counseling and Wellness Center located on the Trinity College campus in Hartford provides a full range of counseling and psychological services to all students who desire assistance in coping with personal and emotional difficulties and social relationships.

“We are assisting students achieve all forms of success in their collegiate experience. The center is a busy place, and is fully utilized by a high percentage of students on campus who are able to access the services,” said Dr. Ralph Dodd, who serves as HHC regional director of collegiate counseling for Campus Care programs of Hartford HealthCare. He is a long-time clinician at the Institute of Living and also oversees similar HHC counseling services at Quinnipiac University.

The Trinity Wellness Center staff includes Dr. Randolph M. Lee, director of the Counseling and Wellness Center, Ms. Maryam Redman, Ms. Haben Abraham, Ms. Jessica Wilde, and Ms. Nelis Bidó-Jiménez serving as licensed clinical social workers, and Dr. Elliott Lacki, a licensed psychologist. Eliza Hedegaard, APRN, also serves as a psychiatric APRN available for medication consultation for students who are in therapy with one of the members of the staff.

Last year, Trinity College strengthened its existing partnership with Hartford HealthCare with sports medicine and athletic training services to provide students with increased access to high-quality, comprehensive counseling services.

Students now enjoy more direct access and increased collaboration to a full range of psychological services such as the IOL young adult program to address areas such as substance abuse, depression, and anxiety. Substance abuse program managers also speak to students at campus health fairs and offer workshops to build skills in navigating day-to-day challenges, relationships, and self-care.

All services offered by the center are free for students with all contact with members of the staff is privileged and confidential as provided by law. The Center is open weekdays and appointments can be set up relatively promptly within a few days to a week.
